Artist Statement
Chris Hartsfield
Chris Hartsfield is a self trained artist, and has been painting and selling his work since 1988. He began his career as a watercolorist. Chris has created over 2,000 paintings that include street scenes, nautical themes, landscapes, and recently, his focus was on still life from 2010 to 2017. His watercolor technique produces a complicated yet detailed scene which reveals an understanding of depth and realism.
In 2015 he created a body of work, some 450 original paintings on canvas, using acrylic, india ink, and collage. A complete break from the realism genre, these images utilized flat planes of color, line, and collage. These images challenge the viewer to engage differently than his realism paintings do.
In early 2018 Chris’ work began morphing again, using acrylic paint on canvas, he is creating colorful images in the “Representational” style. Landscapes, and nautical themes are the focus.
Since March 2020, Chris is in the middle of creating another new body of work, working on large canvases, with acrylic he has circled back to the realsim genre, nothing in this life is for sure…but, Change.
Since 1988 he has had paintings accepted in national and regional competitions. His paintings are bought buy both private and corporate collectors.
