Richard Rink
I am a native of Park Ridge, Illinois, and attended Beloit College in Wisconsin, where I studied painting and art history while earning a Bachelor of Arts. I was awarded a Ph.D. in Anatomy from Tulane University and subsequently joined the faculty at the University of Louisville, Department of Anatomical Sciences.
I learned techniques in black and white photography and oil painting by participating in workshops and classes. The subject matter of my paintings is often evocative of the culture of the American road found along the “blue highways.” My photographs have often provided the stimulus for paintings that create images which are more imaginative than real. Scenes may convey a sense of solitude or of failed endeavors or of chance encounters.
I have exhibited in a variety of locations, including coffee houses, restaurants and galleries in Louisville and elsewhere.
