Artist Statement
Therese Bell
Therese Bell is an American who spent nearly half her life living overseas. At 16 she was already living in Germany earning pocket money painting on a drum set for a local band. Art has always been a passion of hers. She attributes her imaginative artistic style from her many travels, believing that experiencing other cultures is the best education one can have. Therese’s use of color pallets are associated with the countries of her travels. The vibrant blues in her ‘Precious Water’ series are from lengthy stays in Australia and New Zealand with her late Aussie husband. Reds signify the Far East, in particular Hong Kong and China where she had a residence for 31 years. After three trips to Africa she has painted numerous wild animals and enjoys to paint nature themes the most, although taking detours at times to experiment with other styles. These days she chooses to express herself in an abstract surrealism style, always adding hidden meanings and concepts.
