Artist Statement
Wyn Ericson
My name is Wyn Ericson, I am a watercolorist with a bachelor’s degree in Art emphasizing drawing and painting. I was born into a family of artists in California. After graduating from college I pursued art through teaching for 15 years and realized my love of art needed to be pursued. I took the leap and for the past 5 years, I have been a full-time artist. Recently my family and I decided to leave our California roots and settle in Louisville, Kentucky.
Growing up was always an adventure, living with a family of artists. I knew I liked art but I didn’t realize I loved it until later in life. When I think back on all the art I have been exposed to I never really had formal watercolor training. I just kept practicing and studied the many great watercolorists such as Winslor Homer, John Singer Sargent, and Anders Zorn to name a few.
I love to paint the things that are closest to me in a classical realistic way. Whether it is my family or a scene in nature. My Dad always knew how to tell a good story and that is what I try to do through watercolor. My work is highly influenced by the family unit and the values that hold it together. Faith, family, knowledge, emotional connection, freedom, and hope are the pillars of my paintings. I hope they connect with you as they do with me..
